A patio that looks as good at 9pm as it does at noon.

This client came to us with a garden that was functional but uninspiring — a cracked concrete patio that was more car park than outdoor living space. The transformation took two weeks from start to finish.

We used large-format porcelain in a warm grey tone, laid in a running bond pattern. The format — 900x600mm — means fewer grout lines and a cleaner, more contemporary look. Porcelain is virtually maintenance-free: it doesn't absorb water, won't crack in frost, and cleans with a jet wash.

The lighting was the detail that made the difference. Low-voltage perimeter lighting runs along the base of the boundary wall, throwing the paving into relief and making the garden feel much larger after dark. The client now uses the space for entertaining until late into the evening — something that never happened with the old concrete.
