Black Timber Garden Room & Patio

A structure and a garden redesigned together.

When we design a garden room, we always think about what surrounds it. A well-built room sitting on scrubby lawn and cracked concrete looks out of place — so we included a porcelain patio as part of this project from the start, not as an add-on.

The black painted timber cladding was chosen to complement the charcoal porcelain paving — a tonal palette that lets the garden planting do the colour work. Large-format tiles were laid in a stretcher bond pattern, which reads as contemporary without feeling cold.

Perimeter lighting runs along the base of the structure and picks out the edge of the patio after dark. The room is fully insulated with a heat pump system — warm in winter, cool in summer, running costs close to zero.
